commit 2bbb5fa37475d7aa5fa62f34db1623f3da2dfdfa upstream.
Many HP AMD based laptops contain an SMB0001 device like this:
Device (SMBD)
{
Name (_HID, "SMB0001") // _HID: Hardware ID
Name (_CRS, ResourceTemplate () // _CRS: Current Resource Settings
{
IO (Decode16,
0x0B20, // Range Minimum
0x0B20, // Range Maximum
0x20, // Alignment
0x20, // Length
)
IRQ (Level, ActiveLow, Shared, )
{7}
})
}
The legacy style IRQ resource here causes acpi_dev_get_irqresource() to
be called with legacy=true and this message to show in dmesg:
ACPI: IRQ 7 override to edge, high
This causes issues when later on the AMD0030 GPIO device gets enumerated:
Device (GPIO)
{
Name (_HID, "AMDI0030") // _HID: Hardware ID
Name (_CID, "AMDI0030") // _CID: Compatible ID
Name (_UID, Zero) // _UID: Unique ID
Method (_CRS, 0, NotSerialized) // _CRS: Current Resource Settings
{
Name (RBUF, ResourceTemplate ()
{
Interrupt (ResourceConsumer, Level, ActiveLow, Shared, ,, )
{
0x00000007,
}
Memory32Fixed (ReadWrite,
0xFED81500, // Address Base
0x00000400, // Address Length
)
})
Return (RBUF) /* \_SB_.GPIO._CRS.RBUF */
}
}
Now acpi_dev_get_irqresource() gets called with legacy=false, but because
of the earlier override of the trigger-type acpi_register_gsi() returns
-EBUSY (because we try to register the same interrupt with a different
trigger-type) and we end up setting IORESOURCE_DISABLED in the flags.
The setting of IORESOURCE_DISABLED causes platform_get_irq() to call
acpi_irq_get() which is not implemented on x86 and returns -EINVAL.
resulting in the following in dmesg:
amd_gpio AMDI0030:00: Failed to get gpio IRQ: -22
amd_gpio: probe of AMDI0030:00 failed with error -22
The SMB0001 is a "virtual" device in the sense that the only way the OS
interacts with it is through calling a couple of methods to do SMBus
transfers. As such it is weird that it has IO and IRQ resources at all,
because the driver for it is not expected to ever access the hardware
directly.
The Linux driver for the SMB0001 device directly binds to the acpi_device
through the acpi_bus, so we do not need to instantiate a platform_device
for this ACPI device. This commit adds the SMB0001 HID to the
forbidden_id_list, avoiding the instantiating of a platform_device for it.
Not instantiating a platform_device means we will no longer call
acpi_dev_get_irqresource() for the legacy IRQ resource fixing the probe of
the AMDI0030 device failing.

[ Upstream commit 240714061c58e6b1abfb3322398a7634151c06cb ]
Bay and Cherry Trail DSTDs represent a different set of devices depending
on which OS the device think it is booting. One set of decices for Windows
and another set of devices for Android which targets the Android-x86 Linux
kernel fork (which e.g. used to have its own display driver instead of
using the i915 driver).
Which set of devices we are actually going to get is out of our control,
this is controlled by the ACPI OSID variable, which gets either set through
an EFI setup option, or sometimes is autodetected. So we need to support
both.
This commit adds support for the 80862286 and 808622C0 ACPI HIDs which we
get for the first resp. second DMA controller on Cherry Trail devices when
OSID is set to Android.

commit 231f9415001138a000cd0f881c46654b7ea3f8c5 upstream.
Every time I tried to upgrade my laptop from 3.10.x to 4.x I faced an
issue by which the fan would run at full speed upon resume. Bisecting
it showed me the issue was introduced in 3.17 by commit 821d6f0359b0
(ACPI / sleep: Do not save NVS for new machines to accelerate S3). This
code only affects machines built starting as of 2012, but this Asus
1025C laptop was made in 2012 and apparently needs the NVS data to be
saved, otherwise the CPU's thermal state is not properly reported on
resume and the fan runs at full speed upon resume.
Here's a very simple way to check if such a machine is affected :
# cat /sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone0/temp
55000
( now suspend, wait one second and resume )
# cat /sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone0/temp
0
(and after ~15 seconds the fan starts to spin)
Let's apply the same quirk as commit cbc00c13 (ACPI: save NVS memory
for Lenovo G50-45) and reuse the function it provides. Note that this
commit was already backported to 4.9.x but not 4.4.x.

commit cbc00c1310d34139a63946482b40a6b261a03fb9 upstream.
In commit 821d6f0359b0 (ACPI / sleep: Do not save NVS for new machines to
accelerate S3), to optimize S3 suspend/resume speed, code is introduced
to ignore NVS memory saving during S3 for all the platforms later than
2012.
But, Lenovo G50-45, a platform released in 2015, still needs NVS memory
saving during S3. A quirk is introduced for this platform.

commit fdcb613d49321b5bf5d5a1bd0fba8e7c241dcc70 upstream.
The LPSS PWM device on on Bay Trail and Cherry Trail devices has a set
of private registers at offset 0x800, the current lpss_device_desc for
them already sets the LPSS_SAVE_CTX flag to have these saved/restored
over device-suspend, but the current lpss_device_desc was not setting
the prv_offset field, leading to the regular device registers getting
saved/restored instead.
This is causing the PWM controller to no longer work, resulting in a black
screen, after a suspend/resume on systems where the firmware clears the
APB clock and reset bits at offset 0x804.
This commit fixes this by properly setting prv_offset to 0x800 for
the PWM devices.

[ Upstream commit 408fec36a1ab3d14273c2116b449ef1e9be3cb8b ]
Currently we request control of native PCIe hotplug unconditionally.
Native PCIe hotplug events are handled by the pciehp driver, and if it is
not enabled those events will be lost.
Request control of native PCIe hotplug only if the pciehp driver is
enabled, so we will actually handle native PCIe hotplug events.

[ Upstream commit 97f3c0a4b0579b646b6b10ae5a3d59f0441cc12c ]
I found an ACPI cache leak in ACPI early termination and boot continuing case.
When early termination occurs due to malicious ACPI table, Linux kernel
terminates ACPI function and continues to boot process. While kernel terminates
ACPI function, kmem_cache_destroy() reports Acpi-Operand cache leak.
Boot log of ACPI operand cache leak is as follows:

I analyzed this memory leak in detail and found acpi_ns_evaluate() function
only removes Info->return_object in AE_CTRL_RETURN_VALUE case. But, when errors
occur, the status value is not AE_CTRL_RETURN_VALUE, and Info->return_object is
also not null. Therefore, this causes acpi operand memory leak.
This cache leak causes a security threat because an old kernel (<= 4.9) shows
memory locations of kernel functions in stack dump. Some malicious users
could use this information to neutralize kernel ASLR.
I made a patch to fix ACPI operand cache leak.

This is because if there's only one online CPU, the MSR_PM_ENABLE
(package wide)can not be enabled after resumed, due to
intel_pstate_hwp_enable() will only be invoked on AP's online
process after resumed - if there's no AP online, the HWP remains
disabled after resumed (BIOS has disabled it in S3). Then if
there comes a _PPC change notification which touches HWP register
during this stage, the warning is triggered.
Since we don't call acpi_processor_register_performance() when
HWP is enabled, the pr->performance will be NULL. When this is
NULL we don't need to do _PPC change notification.

Just like many other Samsung models, the 670Z5E needs to use the acpi-video
backlight interface rather then the native one for backlight control to
work, add a quirk for this.

ACPICA commit ed0389cb11a61e63c568ac1f67948fc6a7bd1aeb
An invalid opcode indicates something seriously wrong with the
input AML file. The AML parser is immediately confused and lost,
causing the resulting parse tree to be ill-formed. The actual
disassembly can then cause numerous unrelated errors and faults.
This change aborts the disassembly upon discovery of such an
opcode during the AML parse phase.

[ Upstream commit 2bde7c32b1db162692f05c6be066b5bcd3d9fdbe ]
The power table addresses should be contiguous, but there was a hole
where 0x34 was missing. On most devices this is not a problem as
addresses above 0x34 are used for the BUC# convertors which are not
used in the DSDTs I've access to but after the BUC# convertors
there is a field named GPI1 in the DSTDs, which does get used in some
cases and ended up turning BUC6 on and off due to the wrong addresses,
resulting in turning the entire device off (or causing it to reboot).
Removing the hole in the addresses fixes this, fixing one of my
Bay Trail tablets turning off while booting the mainline kernel.
While at it add comments with the field names used in the DSDTs to
make it easier to compare the register and bits used at each address
with the datasheet.

[ Upstream commit 8153f9ac43897f9f4786b30badc134fcc1a4fb11 ]
acpi_processor_get_throttling() requires to invoke the getter function on
the target CPU. This is achieved by temporarily setting the affinity of the
calling user space thread to the requested CPU and reset it to the original
affinity afterwards.
That's racy vs. CPU hotplug and concurrent affinity settings for that
thread resulting in code executing on the wrong CPU and overwriting the
new affinity setting.
acpi_processor_get_throttling() is invoked in two ways:
1) The CPU online callback, which is already running on the target CPU and
obviously protected against hotplug and not affected by affinity
settings.
2) The ACPI driver probe function, which is not protected against hotplug
during modprobe.
Switch it over to work_on_cpu() and protect the probe function against CPU
hotplug.

[ Upstream commit 10809bb976648ac58194a629e3d7af99e7400297 ]
Most Bay and Cherry Trail devices use a generic DSDT with all possible
peripheral devices present in the DSDT, with their _STA returning 0x00 or
0x0f based on AML variables which describe what is actually present on
the board.
Since ACPI device objects with a 0x00 status (not present) still get an
entry under /sys/bus/acpi/devices, and those entry had an acpi:PNPID
modalias, userspace would end up loading modules for non present hardware.
This commit fixes this by leaving the modalias empty for non present
devices. This results in 10 modules less being loaded with a generic
distro kernel config on my Cherry Trail test-device (a GPD pocket).

When early abort is occurred due to invalid ACPI information, Linux kernel
terminates ACPI by calling acpi_terminate() function. The function calls
acpi_ns_terminate() function to delete namespace data and ACPI operand cache
(acpi_gbl_module_code_list).
But the deletion code in acpi_ns_terminate() function is wrapped in
ACPI_EXEC_APP definition, therefore the code is only executed when the
definition exists. If the define doesn't exist, ACPI operand cache
(acpi_gbl_module_code_list) is leaked, and stack dump is shown in kernel log.
This causes a security threat because the old kernel (<= 4.9) shows memory
locations of kernel functions in stack dump, therefore kernel ASLR can be
neutralized.
To fix ACPI operand leak for enhancing security, I made a patch which
removes the ACPI_EXEC_APP define in acpi_ns_terminate() function for
executing the deletion code unconditionally.

commit c2a6bbaf0c5f90463a7011a295bbdb7e33c80b51 upstream.
The way acpi_find_child_device() works currently is that, if there
are two (or more) devices with the same _ADR value in the same
namespace scope (which is not specifically allowed by the spec and
the OS behavior in that case is not defined), the first one of them
found to be present (with the help of _STA) will be returned.
This covers the majority of cases, but is not sufficient if some of
the devices in question have a _HID (or _CID) returning some valid
ACPI/PNP device IDs (which is disallowed by the spec) and the
ASL writers' expectation appears to be that the OS will match
devices without a valid ACPI/PNP device ID against a given bus
address first.
To cover this special case as well, modify find_child_checks()
to prefer devices without ACPI/PNP device IDs over devices that
have them.

commit 86314751c7945fa0c67f459beeda2e7c610ca429 upstream.
Roland Dreier reports that one of his systems cannot boot because of
the changes made by commit ac212b6980d8 (ACPI / processor: Use common
hotplug infrastructure).
The problematic part of it is the request_region() call in
acpi_processor_get_info() that used to run at module init time before
the above commit and now it runs much earlier. Unfortunately, the
region(s) reserved by it fall into a range the PCI subsystem attempts
to reserve for AHCI IO BARs. As a result, the PCI reservation fails
and AHCI doesn't work, while previously the PCI reservation would
be made before acpi_processor_get_info() and it would succeed.
That request_region() call, however, was overlooked by commit
ac212b6980d8, as it is not necessary for the enumeration of the
processors. It only is needed when the ACPI processor driver
actually attempts to handle them which doesn't happen before
loading the ACPI processor driver module. Therefore that call
should have been moved from acpi_processor_get_info() into that
module.
Address the problem by moving the request_region() call in question
out of acpi_processor_get_info() and use the observation that the
region reserved by it is only needed if the FADT-based CPU
throttling method is going to be used, which means that it should
be sufficient to invoke it from acpi_processor_get_throttling_fadt().

commit bb82e0b4a7e96494f0c1004ce50cec3d7b5fb3d1 upstream.
The commit f6f828513290 ("pstore: pass allocated memory region back to
caller") changed the check of the return value from erst_read() in
erst_reader() in the following way:
if (len == -ENOENT)
goto skip;
- else if (len < 0) {
- rc = -1;
+ else if (len < sizeof(*rcd)) {
+ rc = -EIO;
goto out;
This introduced another bug: since the comparison with sizeof() is
cast to unsigned, a negative len value doesn't hit any longer.
As a result, when an error is returned from erst_read(), the code
falls through, and it may eventually lead to some weird thing like
memory corruption.
This patch adds the negative error value check more explicitly for
addressing the issue.

The new fwnode_property_get_reference_args() interface amends the fwnode
property API with the functionality of both of_parse_phandle_with_args()
and __acpi_node_get_property_reference().
The semantics is slightly different: the cells property is ignored on ACPI
as the number of arguments can be explicitly obtained from the firmware
interface.

acpi_graph_get_child_prop_value()
acpi_graph_get_child_prop_value() is intended to find a child node with a
certain property value pair. The check
if (!fwnode_property_read_u32(fwnode, prop_name, &nr))
continue;
is faulty: fwnode_property_read_u32() returns zero on success, not on
failure, leading to comparing values only if the searched property was not
found.
Moreover, the check is made against the parent device node instead of
the child one as it should be.

When removing a GHES device notified by SCI, list_del_rcu() is used,
ghes_remove() should call synchronize_rcu() before it goes on to call
kfree(ghes), otherwise concurrent RCU readers may still hold this list

commit e3d5092b6756b9e0b08f94bbeafcc7afe19f0996 upstream.
The on-stack resource-window 'win' in setup_res() is not
properly initialized. This causes the pointers in the
embedded 'struct resource' to contain stale addresses.
These pointers (in my case the ->child pointer) later get
propagated to the global iomem_resources list, causing a #GP
exception when the list is traversed in
iomem_map_sanity_check().

The ACPI _DSD hierarchical data extension makes it possible to have
hierarchies deeper than one level in similar way than DT allows. These
"subsubnodes" have not been accessible because device property
implementation only provides device_get_next_child_node() that is limited
to direct descendants of a device.
We need this ability in order support things like remote endpoints
currently supported in DT with of_graph_* APIs.
Modify acpi_get_next_subnode() to accept fwnode handle instead and update
callers accordingly. Also add a new function fwnode_get_next_child_node()
that works directly with fwnodes and modify device_get_next_child_node() to
call it directly. While there add a macro fwnode_for_each_child_node()
analogous to the current device_for_each_child_node() but it works with
fwnodes instead of devices.

[ Upstream commit c2a6bbaf0c5f90463a7011a295bbdb7e33c80b51 ]
To cover this special case as well, modify find_child_checks()
to prefer devices without ACPI/PNP device IDs over devices that
have them.

commit fe8c470ab87d90e4b5115902dd94eced7e3305c3 upstream.
gcc -O2 cannot always prove that the loop in acpi_power_get_inferred_state()
is enterered at least once, so it assumes that cur_state might not get
initialized:
drivers/acpi/power.c: In function 'acpi_power_get_inferred_state':
drivers/acpi/power.c:222:9: error: 'cur_state' may be used uninitialized in this function [-Werror=maybe-uninitialized]
This sets the variable to zero at the start of the loop, to ensure that
there is well-defined behavior even for an empty list. This gets rid of
the warning.
The warning first showed up when the -Os flag got removed in a bug fix
patch in linux-4.11-rc5.
I would suggest merging this addon patch on top of that bug fix to avoid
introducing a new warning in the stable kernels.

commit 61b79e16c68d703dde58c25d3935d67210b7d71b upstream.
Paul Menzel reported a warning:
WARNING: CPU: 0 PID: 774 at /build/linux-ROBWaj/linux-4.9.13/kernel/trace/trace_functions_graph.c:233 ftrace_return_to_handler+0x1aa/0x1e0
Bad frame pointer: expected f6919d98, received f6919db0
from func acpi_pm_device_sleep_wake return to c43b6f9d
The warning means that function graph tracing is broken for the
acpi_pm_device_sleep_wake() function. That's because the ACPI Makefile
unconditionally sets the '-Os' gcc flag to optimize for size. That's an
issue because mcount-based function graph tracing is incompatible with
'-Os' on x86, thanks to the following gcc bug:
https://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=42109
I have another patch pending which will ensure that mcount-based
function graph tracing is never used with CONFIG_CC_OPTIMIZE_FOR_SIZE on
x86.
But this patch is needed in addition to that one because the ACPI
Makefile overrides that config option for no apparent reason. It has
had this flag since the beginning of git history, and there's no related
comment, so I don't know why it's there. As far as I can tell, there's
no reason for it to be there. The appropriate behavior is for it to
honor CONFIG_CC_OPTIMIZE_FOR_{SIZE,PERFORMANCE} like the rest of the
kernel.
